Will the Real Entrepreneur Please Stand UP!
The dictionary definition of an entrepreneur is: “A person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture.” An entrepreneur is an innovative person who can almost “create something out of anything.” He is a resourceful person whose versatility makes it easy for him to see the bigger picture and hence places him head and shoulders above his peers. When you think of such a person, the words that come to mind are one who creates or invents, founds, or originates. As a budding entrepreneur, you must also be willing to learn from those who have gone before.
As it is becoming more apparent, the entrepreneurial skills are not the preserve of men. In the bible, you have the proverbs 31 woman and Lydia (Act 16) to name a few. Listed among some of the top entrepreneurs in the world today are women who cannot be overlooked. Real entrepreneurs take initiatives.
Like it or not, the Lord is raising a lot more kingdom minded saints to finance the end-time gospel of Jesus Christ. These include those who give tens and hundreds of pounds/dollars and of course those who eventually become key players and business leaders in their chosen field and hence are able to give in thousands.
Creative tips for budding entrepreneurs:
Like every thing in life, making a success of a business requires a lot of ideas and creativity. Find below a list of suggestions to consider when starting off a business:
- Start at home and move to an office when you have more disposable income. Alternatively, look for an unconventional office space – maybe an empty flat above a shop or the unused garage around the corner
- Buy/Borrow some equipment or office goods from a friend or perhaps someone moving abroad or closing down. Materials or products to start off with could also come from such people
- Barter your services for that of another professional’s. This could either be services or products.
- Ask suppliers/providers for a discount in return for your assistance
- Work or partner with complimentary business to cut costs
- Consider an answering service or virtual assistant instead of staff
- Start off by employing trainees and students who are after experience instead of qualified and experience staff.
- Share office space with related businesses and give the office a joint name
- Ask your business suppliers/providers for credit facilities so you don’t find all the cash for stock or materials at once, thereby improving your cash flow
- Start by selling your products through market stalls until you build a cliental. (This is dependent on your business type).
